Currently seconded to a leading aviation company, Jhasmine thrives on challenging, meaningful work that blends legal expertise with commercial insight. Discover how the Lawyers On Demand model empowered her to reclaim balance, pursue personal passions, and redefine what a fulfilling legal career truly looks like.

Can you please introduce yourself and tell us about your current secondment?

I’m a commercial & financial lawyer with a background in venture capital and startup advisory. My work has often involved guiding founders and SMEs through the challenges of growth, risk, and expansion, particularly across emerging markets.

I grew up in Dubai and studied law at Sorbonne and King’s College London. Those experiences shaped the way I approach my work, with a balance of commercial insight and legal depth, always keeping pace with the industries I support.

Currently, I’m seconded to a leading global aviation company, where I advise on complex commercial and connectivity matters. The work is fast-paced, international, and genuinely meaningful. What makes it even more rewarding is their brilliant team. It’s the kind of secondment that brings out your best and reminds you why the law still excites you.

What attracted you to the Lawyers On Demand model?

LOD felt like the first time someone said, “you can do things differently...and still do them well.” After a few years in the industry, I wanted space to recalibrate and refocus without stepping back from the kind of work I value. The LOD model offered that rare mix of autonomy, quality work, and trust. I believe trust makes all the difference.

How has Lawyers On Demand supported you in your career and your life?

It’s helped me reclaim rhythm and direction. Since joining, I’ve had the space to take a long overdue (and unforgettable) honeymoon to Japan with my husband!

I have also been able to say yes to the things that truly matter, without stepping back from my career. I’ve had the time and energy to mentor students and support early-stage startups, which has been deeply rewarding. That’s not just support; that’s real empowerment.

What has been your experience working with Lawyers On Demand clients?

Exceptional. There’s a strong sense of mutual respect, openness, and integration. You’re not a placeholder; you’re a strategic part of the team’s momentum. That makes for incredibly rewarding work.

What is the best thing about being a Lawyers On Demand secondee lawyer?

You get to choose the work you take on, shape the life you want around it, and still deliver with excellence. There’s strength in that kind of autonomy. And knowing that you’re part of a wider network of skilled, thoughtful lawyers navigating similar paths makes it even more meaningful. In other words, I wake up in the morning and I am eager to get things done. It was a feeling I had long forgotten when I was living on "autodrive", now I am a lot more in the present.

How does Lawyers On Demand support you to achieve other goals/parts of life?

LOD gets that we’re not one-dimensional. I’ve been able to study, travel, reflect, and re-centre, all while remaining professionally active. And the human side of LOD is remarkable. Mark, Fatima, and Laura have been the best support. They are encouraging and always ready with sound advice!

What additional benefits has the Lawyers On Demand model provided you with in your career that you may not have obtained elsewhere?

Perspective and choice. The traditional path can feel rigid. LOD reminds you that there are many ways to do what you do. It gave me the freedom to ask, “What do I want my legal career to look like now?” and then actually build toward that answer.

What advice would you give to new Lawyers On Demand lawyers starting out or someone who may want to change their career trajectory?

Be intentional. Don’t stay on a path just because it’s familiar. A negative place can also be a place of comfort if it is what you are used to. If you’re feeling the need for change, explore it and structure your life around it. LOD is a platform, what you make of it is up to you. That’s liberating, but it also calls for self-awareness, discipline, and purpose.
